Doctor's Visit

Procedures

Sometimes a minor procedure can be performed at your office visit to treat certain conditions.  We offer cryotherapy to remove some types of skin lesions, cosmetic Xeomin to reduce facial wrinkles, and removal of excessive earwax.

Comprehensive Exams

Getting You Answers

We offer comprehensive, preventative health evaluations. A complete exam takes approximately 45 minutes and includes a review of your past history, symptoms, and a physical exam.  Lab tests may be ordered depending on your age and general health such as:

  • Basic metabolic panel (BMP)

  • Complete blood count (CBC)

  • Hepatic function (liver test)

  • Urinalysis

  • Thyroid stimulation hormone (TSH)

  • Lipid profile (Cholesterol screening)

  • Vitamin D level

  • Hemooccult (test to check for blood in stools)

  • PSA (prostate cancer screening) in male patients

  • EKG (electrocardiogram)

  • Spirometry (lung function test) if you have a history of COPD or asthma

  • Pap smears, prostate exams, and breast exams are also part of comprehensive health exam depending on age and necessity.

Sick/Urgent Appointments

We're here when you need us

We understand that emergencies and illnesses are unpredictable and will do our best to see you the same day you need care. Some types of emergencies will require a visit to the emergency room and some can be managed in the office. Please call the office and our nursing staff can help guide you based on your symptoms.

 

Examples of acute illnesses that can be managed in our office include but are not limited to:

  • Upper or lower respiratory infections (sinus, ear, throat, bronchitis, cough, flu, colds)

  • Urinary tract infections

  • Kidney stones

  • Increased blood pressure

  • Abdominal pain

  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting

  • Asthma or COPD exacerbations

After Hours Care

We're here when you need us

After office hours, a Jefferson Internal Medicine Practitioner is on-call for emergencies. Please call 540-776-4000 and ask the operator to page the provider for our office.  We will return your call as soon as possible.

 After-hours Prescriptions 

In most cases you will need to contact your pharmacy for prescription refills.  The pharmacy will contact us electronically if there are no refills remaining.  Some medications cannot be filled by the on-call provider after hours when your record is not available.  The provider on call may in some cases authorize a partial refill to last until the next business day.

Keeping things under control

Living with chronic conditions can be challenging. Some of the conditions that we manage include but are not limited to:

  • High Cholesterol

  • High Blood Pressure

  • Diabetes, with or without need of insulin

  • Heart Conditions: irregular rhythms, ischemic disease/angina, heart valve malfunctions

  • Respiratory illness: Asthma, COPD (both stable and decompensated)

  • Urinary Conditions: Incontinence, increased frequency of urination

  • Thrombo-phlebitis and pulmonary embolus (blood clots)

  • Regulation of blood thinner medications (Coumadin)

  • Arthritis

  • Thyroid disease

  • Acid reflux

  • Headaches

  • Depression

  • Anxiety
